ATV Safety with ATV Helmets for Youth
Younger riders love ATVs, but a lot of the equipment, even ATV helmets for youth, get left in the wayside as excitement mingled with feeling that wearing protective gear is ‘uncool’ takes over. However, this is a dangerous thing to do.
ATVs have their share of dangers since they are used for rough riding and it’s easy to get thrown off and injured. The risk greatly increases when the rider is a younger, more inexperienced one, so it’s even more important to have a good helmet that is solid and will still be worn by the user instead of ‘accidentally’ forgotten.
A variety of companies make ATV helmets for both adults and youth, so it’s largely a matter of choosing the brand you feel most comfortable with. Just a few companies include Fox, Answer, and Shift, though there are several others to choose from.
The helmets offered to youth and adults differ only in the important ways to make them more useful for younger riders; they do not differ in the level of protection or comfort. ATV helmets for youth are smaller in size and often have shells which are more fitted so that the lining is snugger.
Don’t purchase an ATV helmet for your teen to ‘grow into’ as this is very unsafe. Instead, make sure that the helmet fits snugly, won’t simply fly off if your child shakes his head, and takes a bit of work to get off again. You can check the size that will fit in a store and then transfer that size to your online purchase if you’re ordering from the internet.
ATV helmets for youth also tend to be more brightly colored and patterned in order to appeal to a class of riders who tend to judge things more by their appearance than their functionality. This also makes your teen feel more like their helmet is uniquely their helmet and thus they are more likely to use it. Visors for ATV helmets have larger screws so that they are easier for your child to adjust while on the go and the materials are easily machine washable for the inevitable mud and dirt baths. Some even have space for headphones underneath to drown out noise from the dirt bike and protect younger ears from harm.
You want to make sure your child is safe and so making sure you have an ATV helmet for youth instead of one that is meant for adults is an excellent step in that direction. If you yourself are a youth looking for protective equipment than choosing a helmet for your age is not only a way to look great, but it will be geared to be safe for you.
